Leishmanol
Leishmanol is highly effective in the treatment of cutaneous leishmaniasis without failure in any patient, the treated time of the resolution ranged from 2-8 weeks.
it has been noticed that the rate of healing and resolution is enhanced in young aged patients or in patients with small-non ineffective or lesions of short duration.
it has been observed that the rate of healing is delayed in case of secondary in case of large uncleaned ulcerative lesion. Therefore, it has become important to remove the crust of the lesion prior to the drug application to ensure good contact of the drug with the lesion and its deep penetration into the infected tissues.
The smear obtained from some patients after the first application of the drug (Leishmanol) showed that the membrane of the parasite was damaged and the cytoplasm was disappeared.
After the second application the parasite was completely disappeared from the smear. This indicates the leishmanicidal effect of the drug.
There was no abnormatetis observed in the general clinical investigation carried out for the patients before and after treatment. Further more no allergic reactions or side effects were noted in the treated patients.
All of the lesions treated with lieshmanol healed without significant disfigurement or scarring.
Following - up the patients for 6 months after initial therapy, showed the presistent effectiveness of the treatment without any sign of leishmanisais.
Conclusion
